| Description |
English: Sleightholme Moor road This old road was, it seems, once a through motorable road from Tan Hill down to Bowes, but has now been abandoned above Sleightholme farm. It is, however, still fit for cyclists and forms part of the W2W cycle route between Walney and the Wear (or Whitby) http://www.cyclingw2w.info/route.htm. On the right in the distance, smoke can be seen rising from heather burning. This is a regular practice on grouse shooting moors, to encourage the regeneration of young heather shoots which are the main diet of red grouse. |
