Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Slate debris on Castle Crag, Borrowdale There was a British fort on the crag, probably built after the Romans left as copies of Roman household goods were found here. It is possible that the monks and others took refuge here during the Scottish raids. In the 18C the fort was 60m by 36m, but the most of the stone has since been quarried out of the ruins. There are mounds of scrap slate some of which seem to be made into retaining walls. The summit of the crag is up on the right.
