Description

English: View on part of the plateau Skotiní-Aléa, Argolis (a valleylike 14 km long karst depression, 560 m, polje), on all sides surrounded by mountains. There are two extensions off the valley, where the two villages Skotiní and Aléa rest on steep slopes. Relatively frequent geological phenomenon in the karst basins of the northeast Peloponnese, Greece.
The valley plateau has no natural surface water outlet. Precipitation must be drained by ditches. When precipitation of winters is exceptionally rich, some agricultural fields may become wet. Depending on the capacity of the ditches and the two geologically old ponors, some fields may even be flooded. The southern section of the plateau has an up to 30 m extra deep and 2 km long depression, in which precipitation creates a temporary lake, for which the ponor must turn active.
