| Description |
English: Skjæringa is where the town of Longyearbyen and the archipelago of Svalbard is managed from. The orange L-shaped building on the right side is the office of Sysselmesteren, the head of the Norwegian government's presence in the Arctic. Behind it, the red house with the white tower-like attachment is where the Sysselmester resides.
The building with the tall tower is the office of Telenor, a Norwegian telecommunications company operating on Svalbard. The somewhat strange-looking gray metal building is Taubanesentralen, the ropeway central, which was the hub for transportation of coal back when all the mines were connected via cable towers. The building with the tall chimney is Energiverket, the coal plant that still was operating in 2023, planned to soon be turned into a power plant running on diesel. In the background is the port at Adventfjorden, with a Norwegian coast guard vessel docked at the cruise ship terminal. |
