Title
skillet foot (profile)
Description
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy skillet foot, semi-circular in section at the broken end of the leg, with a worn bulbous transverse collar above the foot. The broken end would have originally widened to a curved flat terminal that would have attached to the body of the vessel. The foot is triangular in section and worn but meant to look like the hoof of an animal. There are a few small patches of black organic material still adhering to the surface of the leg, which was burnt on when the skillet was standing near the fire.

Read (1988) illustrates similar small feet on pages 95-96, nos.591 & 597, which date from the 16th to the 17th century.

Butler and Green (2003) illustrate a similar skillet leg and foot on page 177, no.191, which is dated from the 17th century.
