Title
skillet foot (plan)
Description
English: Cast copper alloy receptacle foot, probably from a skillet or small vessel. The foot has broken off from the rest of the leg just above the collar, which remains. The foot is hoofed, triangular in section with one central rib which extends the base of the foot to a slight point. There are traces of two parallel engraved lines outlining the outward facing surface of the foot. The back of the foot is flat and chamfered outwards at the end to create a flat surface for the vessel to stand on. There are patches of black organic material on the front and base of the foot which would have been burnt on to the surface when the skillet was near an open flame.

Butler and Green (2003) illustrate similar feet from a skillet on page 179, no.194, which is dated from the 17th century.

Read (1988) illustrates a similar example of a broken foot on page 95, no.591, which is dated from the 17th century.
