Summary
[edit]DescriptionSkiing down to Gunnerside - geograph.org.uk - 1575480.jpg |
English: Skiing down to Gunnerside This was our first day out skiing of a succession of days - the fell roads remained closed for a week and there was still skiable snow eight days after this shot was taken. On this first day we were struggling a little with the depth of untracked powder and stuck to gentle gradients on nordic skis. A brief bit of drama was provided by a short steep bank down onto this track which then led us down into Gunnerside. The track ends in a steep schuss to a gate onto the main road (which had been ploughed) and it was not easy to stop in time. The choice was whether to fall deliberately, whack into the gate, or have the gate opened and come to an abrupt and damaging halt on the wet tarmac. The dog (far right in the photo) had no such trouble... |
