English: Machinist's mate Petty Officer 2nd Class Luke Vontagen, a diesel technician assigned to USS Annapolis (SSN 760), works with a Cape Verdean Coast Guardsman to repair a propulsion engine on the patrol boat Espadarte D. Annapolis is part of the Africa Partnership Station initiative along with USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43). Both vessels are currently deployed to West and Central Africa to support an ongoing Sixth Fleet effort to improve maritime safety and security. APS is scheduled to bring international training teams to Senegal, Liberia, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, and Sao Tome and Principe, and will support more than 20 humanitarian assistance projects in addition to hosting information exchanges and training with regional partner nations. |
