The Thirteen American Colonies of Great Britainoccupied all the territory from the St. Croix River tothe Florida line, and from the Atlantic to the Mississippisouth of the St. Lawrence and the Great Lakes. Therewere in 1760 some 1,600,000 persons, including about400,000 slaves. Of the total population about 700,000whites and 100,000 slaves were north of Mason and Dix-ons Line, leaving 500,000 whites and 300,000 slaves be-low it. It is one of the most interesting facts in our his-tory that the latitude of Baltimore has always been veryclose to the center of population.
