Bruchlose Faltung der Gesteine. Zum Mechanismus der Gebirgsbildung. Wird ein unvollkommen elastischer Körper innerhalb einerbestimmten Grenze deformiert und derselbe sehr lange Zeit sobelassen, so tritt ein spannungsloser Zustand ein; die elastische(vorübergehende) Deformation ist in die bleibende übergegangen.Der Körper verhält sich von da ab, als hätte er ursprünglicheine kleinere Deformierung erlitten, weshalb er neuerdingsweiter deformiert werden kann. Dies kann in Intervallen fort-gesetzt und so der Körper weit über seine ursprünglicheDeformationsfähigkeit gebogen werden. Daraus folgt auch, daß in dem Begriffe Deformationsfähig-keit ein neuer Faktor, »die Zeit«, eingefügt werden muß,wras insbesonders vom geologischen Standpunkte von großerBedeutung ist.
