Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Site of the first seaplane slipway on Marine Parade West In 1917 this was the site of a temporary slipway used to lower seaplanes to the sea. It was used in alongside a crane, further up the coast, at the end of Richmond Road. It was replaced in 1918 by a double slipway located by The Brambles, near Richmond Road. This, in turn was rebuilt as a massive slipway, probably in the 1960's or 1970's when this area was home to the Inter Service Hovercraft Trials Unit.
