Summary
[edit]DescriptionSite of the boards - geograph.org.uk - 938121.jpg |
English: Site of the boards There used to be diving boards opposite just where the white post is, centre; the steps down to them are still there. There were three - two spring boards and a top platform. In the summer the place was heaving and I spent most of my summer holidays here. Passing boats and steamers were a target for the lads at weekends. Usually three would line up on the boards when a steamer went past and just as the rear quarter drew level with the far board the lads would run and dive; least that is what the people on board thought only to find they were getting bombed and the rear quarter was drenched with water. We thought it was hilarious, don't think the passengers did though.
The boards were removed due to many people having accidents when they jumped off them. |
