Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Site of the Swannington Incline winding engine. The Swannington Incline was the work of Robert Stephenson and was cable worked by a stationary engine at the top - an 1833 horizontal single cylinder engine. This is now preserved at the National Railway Museum but there are alleged plans to rebuild its house and reinstall it here. The incline was latterly used in the reverse direction to supply coal to the Calcutta pit engine.
