Summary

[edit]
Description Site of the former Rosaz House, 2 Bristol Gate, Kemptown, Brighton, City of Brighton and Hove, England, about a year after demolition to make way for a new Macmillan Cancer Centre (seen here at the very early stages of construction). Rosaz House was originally a private house, but in 1936 it became the Female Orphan Asylum. This was founded by François de Rosaz in 1822 on Western Road and moved to a new building on Eastern Road in 1853. In 1936 the orphanage moved the short distance east to this building. It was later called Brighton and Hove Girls Orphanage, then it became a holiday home for disabled children.
