Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Site of ford near to the Ship Inn, Hopton Before the first bridge over the River Calder was built in 1732 Steanard Lane continued behind the Ship Inn to a ford in approximately this position. This bridge was only a bridle bridge, so carts would have used the ford until the present bridge was built after 1880. It looks as if material has been tipped over the approach to the ford, and there is no sign of it on the other side of the river.
