Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Site of Whitwell Colliery There is very little to see of the colliery today: just a few bumps and lumps in a field. The original shaft was sunk in 1836 and mining ended in 1875.Only the colliery wagonway can be traced as it heads north towards the existing Leamside railway line and south (just visible in the centre of the photograph) towards Cassop Moor.
