Summary
[edit]DescriptionSite of Flatts farm SE8723 from old observation shelter - geograph.org.uk - 574432.jpg |
English: Site of Flatts farm SE8723 from old observation shelter, Alkborough, Lincolnshire, England. This photograph was taken in January 2006, looking down to SE723 from the escarpment. Flatts Farm had, by this time, been demolished, and was sited close to the small trees to the left of the river marker in mid-picture. The structure on the right, according to the retired local policeman I met on the walk, was an observation shelter from WW2 when the land was used for bombing runs (indicating that Flatts Farm was deserted even then). I have photos of Flatts Farm taken on 4/1/2003 when it was in a fairly parlous state with most of the roof slates removed - it was a quite sizeable farm with numerous outbuildings for storage and animals. However, these are pre-digital; I will try and get these put onto CD. |
