Summary
[edit]DescriptionSite marker of the southeastern exedra of the Library of Hadrian on August 13, 2020.jpg |
English: "PLOT "KALAMIA" SOUTHEASTERN EXEDRA OF THE LIBRARY OF HADRIAN
The site, known as "Kalamia" (reeds), due to a former reed basket workshop, preserves remains of the two neighbouring and most important Roman monuments in the area, the Roman Agora and the Library of Hadrian. At the northern end, in the basement of a demolished house, part of the western half of the southeastern niche (exedra) of the Library of Hadrian is preserved, as well as a very small part of its northern precinct wall. The exedra, a semi-cylindrical protruding niche with a pair of columns in front of the colonnade - was probably used as the other niches of the precinct wall for supplementary purposes. In a later period, it was converted into a semicircular cistern, which remained in use until the mid 5th - early 6th century A.D." Textː Site marker on Adrianou Street |
