Title |
Single view of an ear ring. |
||
Description |
English: The earring is difficult to date, but could be from the Roman period to the Post Medieval period. It is made from copper alloy, but the method of manufacture is uncertain. It is comprised of five seperate components. Firstly the central stem on which the other components are threaded on. This stem is a length of circular sectioned wire. The upper terminal finshes with a small loop which has a fragment of thread remaining in place. The lower terminal of the wire is possibly folded. The lowest and second component to be threaded on the wire is a small copper alloy bead. The third component, above the small bead is a larger sphereical bead, which is probably hollow inside due to its weight. The fourth component is a scallop-edge upturned 'cup'. The scalloped edges covered the upper portion ofthe sphereical bead. The fifth componet above the 'cup' is another small bulbous bead which has the wire prtruding above it.The length of the earring is 18.2mm and is 8mm diameter. It weighs 1.53g. |
