| Description | The Single Brothers House in Winston-Salem, NC (1786), a national landmark. The northern (right) section was built in 1769 and the southern part in 1786. It is an excellent example of German half-timber design in the United States. The Single Brothers were the unmarried men of the town and lived in this building. Moravian beliefs held that people who had similar backgrounds (age, marriage, etc) should worship and work together. Some of the brothers operated craft shops in the building. |
