| Description |
English: The monastery is located in Chakkrasi sub-district, Muang district, Singburi province. It is presumed that it was built even prior to the establishment of Ayutthaya as the capital city but the builder was unknown.
The temple houses a “Reclining Buddha Image” or “Phra Non Chakkrasi”, a Buddha image in Sukhothai art, with 46 metres in length. It is the largest and longest Buddha statute in Thailand, and has long been the guardian of spirit of Singburi province. In 2299 BC the King Boromarachathirat III had a moot to restore the temple and was restored again in 2428 BC by the moot of King Rama IV and in 2441 BC by Khun Borihara Chakkrasri, the head of Chakkrasi sub-district then. In the area of the temple stands a large Cannonball tree. It is believed that if a flower falls down while one is praying, one’s wish will come true. In addition, the temple provides training on Dharma and meditation practice between the 4thand the 10thof each month to people in general with no charge. |
