English: In Hindu marriage, the groom puts vermilion (sindoor) on the bride’s hair partition and that marks her married. Vermillion consists of mercury which when put in hair partition, is said to cool down and thereby sooths the mind . It is also said to induce passion in the woman. Astrolgers say vermillion activates the chakras and brings good fortune.
