Summary
[edit]DescriptionSinclair Memorial Hut - geograph.org.uk - 379969.jpg |
English: Sinclair Memorial Hut. The hut was at the north end of the Lairig Ghru, which is often portrayed as the most hazardous crossing in the Cairngorms. The Sinclair Hut was built at the northern end to complement that of Corrour to the south. It was a most basic concrete structure and was described in the "Scottish Mountaineer" as "comfortless and inhospitable but nonetheless a haven for exhausted walkers should they underestimate the crossing and get caught in the fierce blasts of a cold winter's day" (http://www.mountaineering-scotland.org.uk/nl/63d.html).
It was removed in the early 1990s because it attracted vandals and, more importantly, tempted walkers into the hills who were under-equipped for the conditions. "The Issue 26 March" |
