Description

In this photo factory workers are working on "whitegoods" products. "Whitegoods" is a term which refers to large electrical goods used domestically such as refrigerators and washing machines, typically white in colour. The exact date of this photo is unknown, but the location could possibly be the Gawler Place factory or Dudley Park factory in Adelaide.

Originally, Simpson & Son was a tinfoil manufactury established in 1853 by Alfred Simpson. The company produced agricultural equipment, safes and eventually munitions during World War I. In 1963, Simpson and Son merged with Pope Industries to form Simpson Pope Holdings which is now owened by Electrolux and they continue to produce household goods and appliances.
