(b. 1590, Paris, d. 1649, Paris) Gaucher de Châtillon, Connétable 1632-35 Oil on canvas, 218 x 137 cm Musée du Louvre, Paris This painting belonged to the Galerie des Hommes Illustres (demolished) that Cardinal Richelieu had installed in the Palais-Cardinal (today Palais-Royal). The execution of the twenty-five portraits of illustrious personalities in the history of France selected by the cardinal was entrusted to Simon Vouet and Philippe de Champaigne.
