Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sketch showing the 1 sq. km territory of Simbor (in yellow). This exclave, now bordered by Gujarat State, is made of an island, on which rest the fort of St-Anthony of Simbor, and two strips of land on the mainland, on either side of the estuary of a small river and two streams. This arid territory was part of the district of Diu, Portuguese India, until it was annexed by India in December 1961. It is now part of Daman and Diu and administratively has been incorporated into the Diu Municipal Council Area.
The sketch is based on an official Portuguese map of Simbor drafted in 1861. The siltation of the river has caused some shifting of the banks of the estuary as well as the island.
