Title
Silver gilt dress pin.
Description
English: Description: A silver-gilt dress-pin head. The head is spherical and probably hollow and contains the end of the pin shaft. It is decorated with silver wire filigree. A raised band separates the two hemispheres of the pin head, with each decorated with three filigree circles, each containing a central pellet surrounded by three smaller filigree circles. There is a pellet between each larger circle, with a small filigree circle in each spandrel. At the apex of the head is a further pellet within a small circle. The pin projects from the opposing end, this is circular in cross section, and bent at an acute angle.

Dimensions: 30.85 mm x 9.98 mm x 2.06 mm Weight: 4.29 g

Date: Late Medieval to Post Medieval - c. 1500-1600.

Discussion: Dress pins with spherical heads decorated with filigree are frequently reported through the Treasure Act and are dated to the 16th century. This design with larger and smaller filigree circles and pellets is very popular. Comparisons include 2004 T159 (SUSS-52C0B2); 2014 T101 (NMGW-C845A3) and 2011 T641 (NCL-2BF5E1).

This find is 300 years old and composed of more than 10% precious metal, and therefore should be considered Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996
