A silver medallion with a gilded leather inset inside a glass cover. The medallion shows a winged angel holding a shield which bears a lion device. There is a suspension loop and a ring on the frame.

Object history File of material relating to a medallion depicting winged angel holding shield, with [horned] lion. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); extract, and transcription of same, from exhibition catalogue in German for the Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim (c. 1972). Comprises description of present object, which was exhibited; Hunt Museum object comment sheet (25 April 1996) containing comments made about object by John Cherry, British Museum. Says that it is possibly from the sixteenth century and that it is possibly continental European, not English. Also notes that object comes from the same sale as Anglo-Saxon buckle with registration number beginning ‘DG’ and the Anglo-Saxon mount with garnet, registration number MG 065.
