Silver Hammered Penny of Burgred
Description
English: A silver early medieval penny of Burgred, King of Mercia (852-874). Obverse shows Diademed bust right. Obverse legend reads BVRGRED REX. Reverse shows the Moneyer's name in three lines in and between two lunettes. Reverse : MON/HVSSA/ETA with an triangular arrangement of three pellets at the end of HVSSA. Moneyer: Hussa. North 423 (Type A; lunettes unbroken). Weight is 1.18g, diameter is 19.61mm, thickness is 0.99mm.
