Description
English: This wedding dress was worn on June 9,1835 by Harriet Elliott Warder when she married William Russell. Warder was the daughter of a Baptist minister in Lexington, Mo. William Russell was a successfully young businessman, and went on to create the short lived Pony Express out of St. Joseph, Missouri in the 1850s. The couple had five children (John, Charles, Anne, Frances, and William) and lived in a 20 room mansion with a stable and a coach house. Russell's later business dealings left him with a tarnished reputation and many debts. After her husband's death, Harriet Russell moved in with her daughter and son-in-law until her death in 1898.
