Description

Bilateral ruptured breast implants. The is a pleural effusion cytology specimen. The effusion contains silicone, both extracellular and within macrophages. The few reported cases relate it to abrupt mechanical trauma or chest wall defects that put the implant and pleura in direct contact. A few cases (such as this one) may be related to lymphatic transport.
