Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sign of the past Little remains around the town to indicate that Greenock was once a major sugar refining town. Tate & Lyle was the last refinery to close. The raw sugar was unloaded from ships here and transported to the refinery in convoys of open topped trucks. A new bulk sugar handling facility was opened at Greenock Ocean Terminal, but had a short life span as the refinery closed soon afterwards.
