Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sign for the Queens Head, Llanidloes A sign that gained popularity because of the beloved Queen Elizabeth I but it appeared before her day. In fact, it probably referred to Mary, Queen of Heaven. Queen Elizabeth I had a strong and direct influence on pubs and pub signs, as she was the first monarch to travel throughout the realm. She was angry with the way she was depicted on pub signs. She didn't mind being on the signs, but was unhappy with the poor likeness of herself. She issued one approved painting which had to be copied faithfully.
