| Description | Just when I was congratulating myself for having managed to reach the top of the Sigiriya hill, my guide tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to more steps, leading still higher. 'What's up there?', I asked him. 'More ruins sir', he quipped. I decided to abort mission there and head back down. I'd seen enough ruins on the way up, at any rate, I was in no physical state to climb still higher, plus the lion paws are the most important part of the Sigiriya hill. This was the end of the road for me. (Sigiriya, Sri Lanka, June 2011). |
