| Description |
English: Taking the Amtrak Acela service from Washington Union Station to Philadelphia 30th St Station on a cold and wet Wednesday evening 6th February. My booked train was at 7.00pm so I had time to wander about and photograph some of the peak commuter action around Union station as Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) and Amrtrak North East Regional services depart with commuters heading home. Track 24 found a much more leisurely pace as travellers boarded the "Crescent" overnight sleeper from Washington to New Orleans via Atlanta - an altogether more stately way to travel. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of traction and presence of relatively newly-delivered locomotives in the station area, with extra Siemens SC-44 units held in the station throat as stand-by locos. |
