| Description |
English: The Siege of Lohkot serves as a reminder of the formidable defenses and harsh realities of warfare in the Kashmir Valley during Mahmud's military campaigns. It highlights the strategic location of Lohkot and the enduring challenges faced by Mahmud in his efforts to assert control over the region. However, Mahmud of Ghazni's efforts proved unsuccessful, and he was unable to achieve his objective. The campaign resulted in significant losses and hardships for Mahmud and his army. Despite his endeavors, Mahmud retreated to Ghazni, unable to accomplish his goals.This event marked Mahmud's initial significant setback on the Indian subcontinent. In 1021, Mahmud again attempted to invade Kashmir, but was again not able to advance beyond the Loharkot fort, due to heavy snowfall. After the two failed invasion attempts, he did not attempt to invade Kashmir again.[1][2][3] |
