Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1921, this Classical Revival-style theater began as the Majestic Theatre under the ownership of C.B. DeWeese, whose name is on the face of the building being renamed the Schine Ohio Theatre in 1927, and the Sidney Theatre in 1941, which operated as a movie theater until 2004, when it closed. Thanks to the efforts of local citizens, the theater reopened in 2007 as a live performance venue. The building features a red brick exterior, simple stone cornice and trim, one-over-one windows, iron balconies on the second floor, first-floor retail spaces flanking the theater entrance with doors featuring oxeye transoms above, and storefronts with transoms, a large Art Deco-style marquee and sign with metal, neon, and lightbulb letters and decorations, an entranceway with terra cotta cladding and aluminum trim, and an interior auditorium that has been restored to its circa 1921 appearance. The building is a contributing structure in the Sidney Courthouse Square Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
