"Sid" Greene Is Dead. In the death of Sidney Joseph Greene, known as "Sid" to many thousands, the Brooklyn Daily Times has lost a valued member of its staff, and the community has lost an interesting and talented individual, whose work was known in hundreds of organizations. Coming to this paper in 1924, after distinguished work on newspapers elsewhere, he quickly earned a reputation for himself for the cleverness with which he sketched the outstanding figures at a banquet or other social occasion. Soon the "Sid" Greene cartoons were famous all over Brooklyn, and the committees in charge of the borough's leading functions began competing for the privilege of having him do the sketches for their affairs. A genial companion, this artist was popular with all his associates and with all the great numbers with whom he came in contact night after night. They will miss him greatly, and in newspaper circles and elsewhere there is sincere regret today over his passing. But his work will live long after him. In scores of clubhouses and in many private homes his sketches are framed and on display. To get the original drawing of a 'Sid" Greene cartoon was a request which came into the editorial office almost daily from the chairman of some dinner or dance committee, and to comply with these requests was about the greatest favor which the Times could confer.
