Description
English: This image of the Italian island of Sicily, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 22 September at 09:20 UTC, shows the hotspots and the enormous smoke cloud generated by a wildfire burning in the Madonie Regional Park near the city of Cefalù. On that day, more than 40 wildfires were burning simultaneously. The fire crisis has been monitored by local Authorities, with more than 300 firefighters on duty. Two casualties have been reported, and hundreds of people have been evacuated from their homes. Copernicus open data provides crucial information on the impacts of wildfires thanks to its satellite imagery and emergency mapping products.
