Description

Grave of Shutt family, location unknown, most likely in the churchyard of St John the Evangelist, Bishop Thornton.

The first part of the inscription says: "Here lies the body of John Shutt of Bishop Thornton who departed this life June 11th in the year of Our Lord 181- aged 73 years." (The last number of the year date is missing due to weathering of the stone).

The rest is mostly illegible: "In steadfast hope of (that good?) day ... hours as ... only lent ... Reader thou art moved, O prepare to meet thy God ..."
