| Description |
English: Shoregate, Crail This is the road down to the harbour.All too many seamen have walked down here to join their ship never to return, including the photographer's great- grandfather. Although ancient, the harbour was improved by Robert Stevenson (grandfather of RLS) in the early 19th century. Most of the buildings date from the 17th and 18th century and one to the left, off picture, was originally a chapel. There has been a population here since earliest times and Crail was created a Royal Burgh by Robert the Bruce in 1310. |
