may be calledria shorelines, after the ria coast of northwestern Spain, which wasproduced by the drowning of normal river valleys along a moun-tainous coast; thus used, the term ria is not restricted to thenarrow meaning assigned to it by von Richthofen, who first usedit in a generic sense; but is employed in the broader sense inwhich it has been used by Gulliver and others: (5) shorelines pro-duced by the partial submergence of a region of glacial troughs,known sls fjord shorelines, like those of Norway and Alaska. (a) Ria Shorelines.
