[edit]DescriptionShipyard workforce at Lake Baikal.jpg |
The icebreaking steamer 'Baikal' was built at Walker in 1896. This photograph shows the workforce who reassembled the 'Baikal' at Lake Baikal. They were mainly exiles and criminals. They also included Isaac O'Henry, the Chief Engineer, who often told a tale of a long walk in the tundra alone with a guide who later turned out to have murdered his entire family with an axe!
