| Description |
English: Shipwreck near Porth y Rhaw The remains of one of the tugs which went aground here in 18 October, 1981. In the right foreground is the engine of one tug, and to the left of the large rock are the remains of the engine and hull of another. In this incident, three tugs ran aground on this rocky beach. The Greek tugs (former Mersey tugs) were VERNICOS ALEXIA, which was towing VERNICOS GEORGIOS and VERNICOS BARBARA IV. After experiencing engine problems, VERNICOS ALEXIA fouled the towline and all three were swept ashore when its anchors failed to hold. The remains of one of the tugs can be seen in this photo. |
