Original description: This is quite an amazing site at any time - however when it looms out at you in your headlights on a misty evening it can give you quite a shock I can tell you - and I speak from experience. Research on the net suggests that it is a representation of Admiral Lord Howe - and is either from the eponymous "Howe" warship, or from the Navy's last wooden warship "Impregnable". If I get to the bottom of it, I'll modify this comment !

These days it has its own little roof for protection - since it was repainted I think. It is on a bend in the road to The Lee near Hunt's Green and guards the gate to a property called Pipers (which is in the adjacent square).
