碑本文
“1911年、この熊野の地で、「天皇殺害を企てた」とする大逆事件のために、死刑2名無期懲役4名都合６名の人々が犠牲になった。

　･大石誠之助　　･成石平四郎　･高木顕明
　 　･峰尾節堂　　　･成石勘三郎　･崎久保誓一
太平洋戦争後、この事件は自由思想弾圧の国家的陰謀である事実が判明し、かれらはその犠牲者であった。
これらの人々は必ずしも同じ思想を有していたわけではないが、熊野独特の進取の精神や反骨の気風の中で、平和･博愛･自由･人権の問題においては、むしろ時代の先覚者であった。
こうした彼らの志は、今熊野に生きる我々にも当然受け継がれなければいけないものと確信する。”
