Summary
[edit]DescriptionSherman tank at New York State Military Museum.jpg |
English: The New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center, located at 61 Lake Avenue in Saratoga Springs, New York occupies the historic former National Guard armory there, which was built from 1889 to 1891 and remodeled in 1902. It was designed by noted armory builder Isaac G. Perry, who also designed the New York State Capitol. The museum's collection began to be accumulated in 1863, without having a permanent home, until it was announced in 2001 that the armory would be renovated to house it. The museum opened in 2002. The Sherman tank on display outside the museum is a M4A3 Sherman Medium Tank with 75MM M3 gun, one of the most commonly used tanks in World War II, with over 50,000 manufactured. This one was built by the Ford Motor Company between 1942 and 1943. |
