| Description |
English: Detail of the bronze sculpture group titled "War", depicting a vulture crouching on the body of a dead soldier, on the west side of the General William Tecumseh Sherman Monument in Sherman Plaza in Washington, D.C., in the United States. The monument and sculpture group was designed by Danish-American sculptor Carl Rohl-Smith between 1896 and 1900, but he died in 1900 before they were finished. Danish sculptor Stephen Sinding modelled the War figures. Sinding created plaster models for these pieces from Rohl-Smith's sketches. But upon review, the postures and sizes of the figures were found not to harmonize with the rest of the monument. American sculptor Sigvald Asbjornsen remodelled them. The memorial was dedicated in 1903. |
