| Description |
English: Sherkin Island: The Franciscan Friary Known locally as the Abbey, the Friary was founded around 1465 by Finnen O'Driscoll for the Franciscan Friars of Strict Observance. It was dissolved in 1537 and became ruinous. At the time this photograph was taken in 1991 some renovation work was in progress as evidenced by the scaffolding and the worker in the blue clothes.
The white tower over the left side of the ruin is 13113 on the mainland. |
