Description
English: A Ramaytush Ohlone shellmound in present San Mateo, California designated CA-SMa-4 (and historically known as the Henry P. Bowie Mound). The mound was first excavated in 1911 by Nelson who disinterred the burials of at least 32 indigenous people dating from 2000 BCE to 500 BCE.[1][2]

Mound no. 372 [CA-SMA-04], situated at the marsh edge, corner of Poplar Avenue and H street [now Humboldt St, underneath current San Mateo High School], San Mateo. Dimensions 150 X 225 ft. through the base; height may have been as much as 12-15 ft. Made up largely of oyster shells. Shells now being screened and put to various uses. View looking northeast.
